Wow! That all happened so fast didn’t it? Who would have guessed we would be here a couple of weeks ago. Yet here we are in lock down, living and working at home. We’re all trying to figure out how to lead our youth groups in this new world. Some people have been working extra on this and we’ve shared their advice in our “Resources” section. As an AYM team, we are committed to offering as much support as we can so please don’t hesitate to contact us, we will welcome the conversation as we are all in this together. I asked our Ministry Assistant and teacher trainee Mark, what advice he would give us as we navigate this new environment.
First is kindness. Obviously for others, those that will be hugely impacted in this time of isolation, the lonely, the people who are unable to shop for their groceries, the people that now have a full household to look after 24/7. That piece of kindness, encouragement or act of service could mean the world for them. But, also to find kindness for yourself, there will be a lot of space to wrangle with your thoughts through the lock down, especially for those doing it alone. This has potential to be a very dark space for some people, which leads to the second point.
Second is staying connected, that face to face time on video calls will be so important. Just having someone to talk things through with and being able to hear a friendly voice can brighten up anybody’s day! Who are the people you’ll be consistently checking up with?
And Finally hold onto our hope. This is where the power of our faith comes into play. Keep praying for the vulnerable, keep attending our new church services and continue finding God and his beauty in your day to day life.
From everyone at AYM, we hope that you and your family stay safe through this season. Kia kaha!
